Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine
The Anesthesiology Dept. is specialized in surgical anesthesia, critical patient management and pain treatment. First, surgery anesthesia management is a priority in general affairs regarding patient life during surgery. Since anesthetized patients cannot do anything by themselves, anesthesiologists monitor their overall condition. They must watch if the proper amount of oxygen is provided, if the oxygen is appropriately distributed throughout the body, if the proper amount of blood remains in the body, if there is any excessive bleeding during surgery, if the blood pressure is maintained at a normal level, if the heart beats normally, if the surgeon does his work well, if the surgery environment is pleasant, if there are any conditions that can cause complications after surgery, and more. They must rapidly come up with solutions to such obstacles. There are 15 surgery rooms in the medical center with approximately 40~60 instances of anesthesia engaged in daily. It is also responsible for severe post-surgery pain, painless delivery, chronic pain management and critical patient treatment including respiration management in the Intensive Care Unit.
